#iPhone #photos from Derry, Northern Ireland

Photos taken on my iPhone while in Derry shared below. I took more photos with my Nikon throughout my stay in Northern Ireland last week, will have those posted online on Flickr once I have the time to go through them all (most likely this weekend). Will be posting photos of my recent trip to Budapest, Bratislava and Vienna with Monika the week prior to Northern Ireland, shortly as well.

So I went for a run earlier this afternoon and made my way to Austria from Hungary... #iPhone #photos

... It helps that Kőszeg, a city situated at the foot of the Austrian Alps in Western Hungary and my home for the next year and a half, is only located 2 kms away from the border.

Given the history of Kőszeg, this run would not have been possible back when Hungary was under communist rule and behind the iron curtain, I would most likely have been picked up by the police, interrogated and asked to leave, similar to what happened to an American friend of mine who wrote to me a couple of months ago recounting his experience when he visited Kőszeg back in the 1980's. Fortunately, all of that is a thing of the past and I was able to cross the border without any issues.

On a personal note, I really did feel the need to go out for a long run today, to get some fresh air and to clear my head, after what I can only describe as an emotional roller coaster of a time spent in Derry, Northern Ireland this past week. By the end of the week, Im hoping to write up and share most of everything that I learned, watched and witnessed at the conference on Divided Societies at the University of Ulster. For now, its back to writing papers for classes as well as studying for midterms.

It's good to be home for the long stretch until Christmas, when I will be making my way to the Philippines after six long years. My return flight to Manila from Vienna has been booked, more on that to come.

The Google Android Phone

Google Nexus One

Hello and welcome to the Googleplex in Mountain View, California - where in the next hour or two we are expecting the internet's most powerful company to unveil its own brand of mobile phone.

Speculation's run rife over the past couple of months about a new handset from Google - just the latest in what seems like a never-ending about the company's plans to become a significant force in mobile.

Why does an internet company want a piece of your mobile phone? Is it just hi-tech hubris? As I told Guardian Daily podcast, Google craves data - and trying to make its Android mobile system ubiquitous is an attempt to place itself at the centre of the world's information. Phones are increasingly the way that most of the planet interacts with computers, and Google wants to be there so that it can sell stuff to us along the way.

Toronto and the Social Web

Played tourist in Toronto today, showing Monika's cousin around who is visiting from NYC. All of the above photos were taken on my iPhone and posted using the PicPosterous iPhone app. It's amazing what you can do with mobile technology and the social web these days. The possibilities are endless.
